The Spotlight On:
Well, I know of two statements Quentin Richardson made this year. First of all he stated, "We will win the Illinois state championship this year." Second of all, he assured everyone after Whitney Young's overtime loss to Lexington Catholic that they would not use another game that year. Well, both statements were proven to be correct. Richardson led Whitney Young to their first ever Illinois tate championship this year. He averaged 24 points along with 12.6 rebounds per game. He led the team in scoring, rebounding, free throw shooting, and steals. Quentin is a true warrior on the floor.
Richardson's final college decision was between DePaul and Kansas. He chose DePaul because he wanted to stay closer to home, and he'll join DePaul's super freshmen class also featuring Chicago natives Lance Williams and Bobby Simmons. He'll try to guide DePaul to the Final Four his freshman year.
Richardson along with the whole Whitney Young team is a class act. Other players included Dennis Gates (California), Cordell Henry (Marquette), Corey Harris (Ball State), Marquis Wright (Undecided), and others. They always showed great sportmanship and class as a team on and off the floor. It will probably be a long time before you will see another team like Whitney Young in Illinois.
Recently at the Derby Classic in Lexington, Quentin led the all star field with 40 points and 18 rebounds. He also won both the Slam Dunk and Three Point Contests at the event. Not too bad of a performance if you ask me.
